Rogers: ‘I am a candidate for President for the Village of Hazel Crest to make an effective change ‘

Java Rogers, currently serving as a trustee for the Village of Hazel Crest, announced her candidacy for Mayor on October 14. She said, “I am committed to building an economic engine that will sustainably support our village and lead to an overall improvement in our community.”

“I am a candidate for President for the Village of Hazel Crest to make an effective change in local government,” said M Rogers, Candidate for Mayor. “I am committed to building an economic engine that will sustainably support our village and lead to an overall improvement in our community.”

According to her press release, Rogers’ name will appear on the ballot for President of the Village of Hazel Crest in 2025. She is presently a Trustee for the village and believes she can develop an economic framework to support it sustainably. Since being sworn in as a Trustee, Rogers has focused on enhancing safety and creating necessary infrastructure for community growth.

Rogers is employed as a teacher in District 148 and has experience as a principal and dean in District 168. Her teaching career includes roles such as a fifth-grade math and science teacher at Posen Intermediate School. Her areas of expertise include Spanish, Special Education, Math and Science, and Social Studies.

Before entering education, Rogers worked with agencies in Chicago and Harvey as a case manager and adoption specialist. At the Children’s Home and Aid Society of Illinois in Harvey, she managed cases for 22 wards under the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services.

A Facebook post from the Village of Hazel Crest on June 9, 2021, congratulated several elected officials: “Congratulations to the elected officials who were sworn in during last night’s board meeting. Clerk Isaac Wiseman, Trustee Java Rogers, President Vernard Alsberry Jr., Trustee Marlon Rias, and Trustee Kevin Moore.”

Rogers is active within her community. Besides her work with youth organizations, she volunteers with the Veterans Commission, Hazel Crest Youth Commission, and the Hazel Crest Mustangs Youth Organization. According to an October 14 news release, she holds a Master of Art in School Improvement Leadership and a Type 75 certificate from Olivet Nazarene University. She also earned a Bachelor of Art in Spanish/Political Science from Grambling State University.
